Managed or unmanaged?

An unmanaged switch is enough for a small project closed on cameras alone. A managed switch gives you VLANs to isolate the camera network from the office network — a security requirement today, not a luxury — plus port monitoring and remote administration. L3 is needed when routing between networks or linking multiple sites.

The 100-metre limit

Ethernet over copper stops at 100 m. Beyond that use fibre with an SFP module — available here for 300 m, 500 m and 10 km.
